The BJC/WUSM Healthcare Innovation Lab catalyzes care delivery innovations through research and development. We define innovation as a new idea that, when implemented, creates value. In 2023, the Innovation Lab created three focus areas to inform our portfolio of work in support of this mission: Alignment to system priorities and goals, emerging innovations, and creating a culture of innovation.
Some of the outcomes of this work include:
– Virtual Nursing Pilot: Virtual nurses have supported 19% of admissions and 39% of discharges at Barnes-Jewish hospital, 11% of admissions and 17% of discharges at Missouri Baptist Sullivan hospital, and 17% of admissions and 34% of discharges at Progress West and Barnes Jewish St. Peter’s hospitals
– Inpatient Sleep Pilot: 25% improvement in dedicated quiet time interruptions
– Epic Predictive Analytics Program: 6 predictive models developed, including a revised length-of-inpatient-stay prediction model
